Postsurgical garments for optimal support and compression - promoting the healing process

Surgical sites need to be well protected. Medical garments and textiles need to provide support and compression to reduce wound swelling, minimize the accumulation of blood and fluid and promote the healing process.

Seamless design and soft fabric can be used for postsurgical products and are ideal for the postoperative states, offering support and full freedom of movement without restricting or irritating sensitive tissue. Integrating correct stretch capabilities are therefore also important when designing postsurgical garments and textiles. Reasons to choose specially designed post-op garments

Medical compression and support garments are designed to provide overall or targeted compression and support to the surgical site. This is not the case with a standard garment. After surgery, patients can be in of garments which are specially designed to compress the skin around the surgical site and provide comfort for the duration of the patients recovery phase.

When using a medical post-op garment, the patients and caregiver can be certain that the product is specially designed to be used with the surgery in question. The garment is designed to reduce some of the complications and risks that a surgery can cause – e.g. offering seamless design to avoid any wound irritation, elasticated 4-way stretch to make the garment adjust to the patient's body contour throughout the entire recovery period, and targeted compression zones to provide the patient with the right amount of compression and support at the surgical site at all times.

Differences between regular garments and post-op garments

There are vast differences between regular garments and a medical post-op compression and support garments. For instance, a post-op bra offers more compression and support than a regular sports bra. Moreover, a sports bra typically has the same level of tightness throughout the entire bra, whereas customised post-op bras from Tytex have unique compression and support zones integrated giving possibilities for offering targeted compression at exactly the right places.

Also, post-op garments are designed to last for a long time. Professionally constructed medical compression garments do not break or loose functionality after consistent everyday use. As long as the products care handling instructions and instructions for use are followed, medical post-op garments can be worn 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for up to 6-8 weeks without losing any functionality.
