The recipe for a good and long term relationship

Developing, designing and manufacturing high performance medical garments and textiles is not an easy undertaking. Garment and textile design has is own logic. Which materials and technology to use? Which treatments to apply on the garment as well as which accessories to incorporate and why?  What does the regulation stipulate on your specific market? What effect do the choices we make have on the price, the lead time and the end user? When do we need to start production in order to ensure OTD? All these questions are just some of the areas which need to be covered when designing medical textiles and garments. Always being one step ahead when steering the development and manufacturing process is vital in order to reach the goals within the given deadlines.

The stage gate model employed at Tytex - a structured approach to a complex reality

Having worked with many different types of customers on a wide variety of projects over the course of five decades we have identified the universal need for structure when developing complex medical garment and textile solutions. Therefore, we have developed a tried and tested stage gate approach. By applying this approach when developing garments and textiles for our partners we aim to both respect and address the fact that market, company and end user requirements are different and complex. By introducing an ordered and highly structured approach to working with a variety of needs, requirements, regulations and professional groups we ensure that all the right questions are addressed at the right time and that our customers are well-informed and listened to at all times during the various stages of the development process.

Stage 1: Prototype and development phase

Having agreed on scope of cooperation as well as terms the real work on the partners project starts. We quickly hold a meeting between the partners' project owner and associated team and the project team at Tytex. Having decided on the scope and various product requirements Tytex's team immediately begin developing a working prototype as this in our experience is the best way of rapidly realising the optimal solution. The customer and the Tytex team now have a tangible solution which can be felt, seen and commented on easily. Upon having viewed the prototype the customer always has comments and suggestions. These inputs are implemented within two weeks into prototype version 2.0. Another — and normally final — feedback loop is then undergone and the prototype is modified for the last time. Usually a total of two feedback loops is the contractually agreed upon for existing products and three to four for new models.

Stage 2: Sample development phase

Having agreed that the prototype is correct and it meets all the requirements of the initial agreement we move on with sample production. Here the products manufacturing viability tested and determined and user tests and evaluations are performed. Moreover, the customer will receive samples for comments. After test results and comments are gathered modifications will again be made if needed and the final product is developed.

Stage 3: Production and delivery

After stage one and two stage three mostly is a formality. At Tytex we have our own in-house, large-scale production facilities and therefore products developed and modified during stage one and two are always ready for production immediately. No further corrections are needed and no lengthy production conversion processes are needed. Time to market is rapid and no hassle will be experienced the customer.

The stage gate approach makes the development process manageable

No matter whether a development project is large and complex or dealing with minor incremental changes the stage gate approach we employ makes it manageable. Moreover, by employing the stage gate approach we ensure that both our customers and the people involved in a specific project at Tytex always knows how far we are in the project. Also, we all know who is responsible for what and at what time. All contingencies are known and everybody feels informed at all time. The processes are optimised, the communication is lean and the people involved know what to do and when to do it.

I thoroughly enjoy working like this and the feedback we get from our customers on this way of working is also always positive.

The really unique features of our garments

four way stretch; 4-way stretch; medical

4-way
stretch

The textile will adapt to the body shape at all times ensuring that the product will provide the necessary compression needed for recovery, as well as the best possible comfort at all times during prolonged wear.

Targeted compression
and support

Targeted compression and support means that our partners' products are designed to provide the necessary compression and support exactly where needed. By controlling compression on the scar tissue, the healing process advances faster and patient comfort is heightened. The compression zones are specially designed into each product based on indication.

Seamless
knitting

For optimum healing, the surgery site needs rest. That is why products from Tytex and our partners are designed to guarantee no seams in the wound or scar area and at any other critical sites of the applied area. This provides maximum skin friendliness and prevents pressure marks, as well as irritation of skin and tissue.

Fact-based
sizing

When it comes to medical textiles and post-op garments, no size fits all. That is why we base all sizes on three parametres; statistical body knowledge, comfort stretch measurements and extensive knowledge and experience with the combination of knitting methods in different materials. The combination of these 3 parameters ensures perfect fit at all times.
