Highly complex conditions demanding intricate solutions

People can lose a limb for a number of reasons like birth defects, circulation problems, injuries caused by trauma or cancer. The target groups for prosthetics are multitude as are the various positions of the prosthetics. Therefore a wide range of complications can occur in combination with prostheses and the fact that a part of the human — a highly mobile part — needs to be working with an external object.

Rehabilitation engineering has developed advanced scientific solutions and equipment which aids individuals with disabilities. Solutions which are important supplements to the recovery of physical and cognitive functions lost because of disease or injury.

Textiles are important in relation to prosthetics

No matter the number and quality of technological advancements in relation to the prosthetics are textiles have always played an important part in securing a comfortable and clinically optimal transition between the human body and the prosthetic solution applied.

Textiles are optimal for creating a natural barrier between a more or less solid external object which in some degree needs to continually work in unison with a human limb. Various combinations of advanced textile solutions can offer cooling or heating properties, anti-slide benefits, moisture reduction rewards, swell management capabilities as well as provide protection, softness and lessen friction to the skin affected to name just a few advantages of combining progressive prosthetic solutions with advanced textiles.

At Tytex we are experts in developing, designing and manufacturing state of the art garments and textiles. In house research and development competences, specialised designers and advances production facilities are offered to our partners. Expertise at Tytex and why it is relevant when designing advanced prosthetics solutions

At Tytex we have more than 50 years' of experience with working with other companies in order to deliver high-tech garment and textile solutions specifically for the medical industry. The medical sector is complex. Special requirements in regards to legislation, testing, best practices and many other variables needs to be considered when making products here. We know which aspects are important in the market and we know how the human body works.

Throughout the 50 years history of Tytex a solid technological platform has been developed which is perfectly capable of catering to the advanced medical industry in regards to garments and textiles. Our customers can have solutions developed and manufactured for any limb size on the human body. The solutions offered to customers are centered on four main benefits. These benefits are ideally applicable for textile solutions used with prosthetics products.

Challenges with prosthetics solutions and potential answers

Rehabilitation engineers have done great advances in respect to mechanics and general mobility restoration. However, a challenge which remains is that the advances developed needs to adhere to the human body. Here various solutions like silicone merged with textiles needs to be applied in order to both provide a barrier between the prosthesis and the human body, to provide comfort to the user and also in order to provide durability of the overall solution. Solutions offered by Tytex have a wide variety of properties.

4-way stretch

4-way stretch ensures, that the textile solution will adapt to the limb it is attached to. Moreover, as even when fitted properly, ongoing adaptation from a patient perspective will occur in regards to getting used to having a residual limb instead of a full limb. Initial discomfort can even be anticipated as the patient grows accustomed to the prosthetic limb. The textile solution needs to provide maximum comfort and stretch both in the initial healing phase as well as in the in relation to the residual limb changing and continuing to heal. 4-way stretch capabilities ensures that the textile will adapt to the body shape at all times ensuring that the product will provide the necessary properties needed for recovery, as well as the best possible comfort at all times during prolonged wear.

Targeted compression and support

With a garment and textile solutions from Tytex prosthetics product manufacturers also have the possibility of integrating compression and support properties into their end products. By incorporating compression zones in garments and textiles it is possible to provide optimal conditions for healing by managing blood flow and potentially reduce general pain, sores, or blisters on the residual limb.

Seamless knitting

A prosthesis will be place directly on top of a movable part of the human body. It is crucial that the solution does not provide stress and pressure to the residual limb as this will both inhibit optimal initial healing but also cause unwanted continuous frustration to both the user and the residual limb. With any kind of garment and textile solution from Tytex our partners have can develop prosthetics products which will have no seams in any way frustrating the patient and the residual limbs the products are intended for. Maximal comfort and optimal healing conditions are thereby ensured.

Fact-based sizing

When it comes to medical textiles and post-op garments, no size fits all. Some amputations can be more challenging to fit correctly. Moreover, a residual limb changes as it continues to heal and continuing evaluation of progress and potential adjustments needs to be performed. That is why all sizes with us are based on three parameters; statistical body knowledge, comfort stretch measurements and extensive knowledge and experience with the combination of knitting methods in different materials. The combination of these three parameters defines our size definition, ensuring perfect fit at all times, minimal need for adjustment at end user level and least amount of SKU's at a manufacturer level.

Customised prosthetics solutions as well as basic designs available

At Tytex we can help you develop, design and manufacture advanced textile solutions which perfectly supplement your prosthetics products. With us your company can have special products developed in which the textile will be part of a multi-component solution — e.g. silicone. Also, possibilities exist for developing solutions where wearable sensors or special adhesives are applied.

With Tytex as your partner you will have access to a skilled workforce, advanced manufacturing technologies and streamlined processes which ensures you high performance solutions, best in class manufacturing and rapid time to market at reasonable price points.

The really unique features of our garments

four way stretch; 4-way stretch; medical

4-way
stretch

The textile will adapt to the body shape at all times ensuring that the product will provide the necessary compression needed for recovery, as well as the best possible comfort at all times during prolonged wear.

Targeted compression
and support

Targeted compression and support means that our partners' products are designed to provide the necessary compression and support exactly where needed. By controlling compression on the scar tissue, the healing process advances faster and patient comfort is heightened. The compression zones are specially designed into each product based on indication.

Seamless
knitting

For optimum healing, the surgery site needs rest. That is why products from Tytex and our partners are designed to guarantee no seams in the wound or scar area and at any other critical sites of the applied area. This provides maximum skin friendliness and prevents pressure marks, as well as irritation of skin and tissue.

Fact-based
sizing

When it comes to medical textiles and post-op garments, no size fits all. That is why we base all sizes on three parametres; statistical body knowledge, comfort stretch measurements and extensive knowledge and experience with the combination of knitting methods in different materials. The combination of these 3 parameters ensures perfect fit at all times.

Understanding the customers reality and basing decisions and advice on the customer as well as in-depth professional knowledge

At Tytex we pride ourselves in our ability to asking the right questions to the customer and basing our advice and solutions on two things - customer input and professional knowledge.

Our customers usually have very clear ideas about the product they want to bring to market. They know they want a certain garment or textile for a particular clinical indication in a particular colour at a specific price point. My job is to translate these certainties into a space of opportunities. But our customers also appreciate being challenged. If we do X we can also achieve Y. We listen, we challenge and we come up with solutions and then we manufacture the solutions.
