Postsurgical garments for optimal support and compression - promoting the healing process
Surgical sites need to be well protected. Medical garments and textiles need to provide support and compression to reduce wound swelling, minimize the accumulation of blood and fluid and promote the healing process.
Seamless design and soft fabric can be used for postsurgical products and are ideal for the postoperative states, offering support and full freedom of movement without restricting or irritating sensitive tissue. Integrating correct stretch capabilities are therefore also important when designing postsurgical garments and textiles. It is also paramount to produce products in skin-friendly materials which provides support and relief as well as optimum wearing comfort, while also offering the clinically required compression where needed.

The really unique features of our garments
The textile will adapt to the body shape at all times ensuring that the product will provide the necessary compression needed for recovery, as well as the best possible comfort at all times during prolonged wear.
Targeted compression and support means that our partners' products are designed to provide the necessary compression and support exactly where needed. By controlling compression on the scar tissue, the healing process advances faster and patient comfort is heightened. The compression zones are specially designed into each product based on indication.
For optimum healing, the surgery site needs rest. That is why products from Tytex and our partners are designed to guarantee no seams in the wound or scar area and at any other critical sites of the applied area. This provides maximum skin friendliness and prevents pressure marks, as well as irritation of skin and tissue.
When it comes to medical textiles and post-op garments, no size fits all. That is why we base all sizes on three parametres; statistical body knowledge, comfort stretch measurements and extensive knowledge and experience with the combination of knitting methods in different materials. The combination of these 3 parameters ensures perfect fit at all times.
Case: development of unique post-op bra creating sustainable competitive advantage in the market space
A global compression therapy manufacturer was missing a key product – post-op bra – to complement his portfolio and to close off competition to key customers.
The customer's challenge was that he did not possess the required technical capabilities nor fabric know how on designing and manufacturing a unique real seamless compression bra.
Based on the customer's and his customer’s input – clinical/non clinical – Tytex mapped out the product requirements for the new product. Less than two weeks later, product prototypes were approved and clinical evaluation was initiated and end user feedback acquired and after only a few modifications the product was ready to launch.
The customer's sales force was excited and motivated to take this unique product with clear differentiated compression zones to market. With the product portfolio addition, the customer is now a full range supplier to his key customers and by employing this tactical move the customer also managed to ward off competition in the space.
Reasons to choose specially designed post-op garments
Medical compression and support garments are designed to provide overall or targeted compression and support to the surgical site. This is not the case with a standard garment. After surgery, patients can be in of garments which are specially designed to compress the skin around the surgical site and provide comfort for the duration of the patients recovery phase.
When using a medical post-op garment, the patients and caregiver can be certain that the product is specially designed to be used with the surgery in question. The garment is designed to reduce some of the complications and risks that a surgery can cause – e.g. offering seamless design to avoid any wound irritation, elasticated 4-way stretch to make the garment adjust to the patient's body contour throughout the entire recovery period, and targeted compression zones to provide the patient with the right amount of compression and support at the surgical site at all times.
Differences between regular garments and post-op garments
There are vast differences between regular garments and a medical post-op compression and support garments. For instance, a post-op bra offers more compression and support than a regular sports bra. Moreover, a sports bra typically has the same level of tightness throughout the entire bra, whereas customised post-op bras from Tytex have unique compression and support zones integrated giving possibilities for offering targeted compression at exactly the right places.
Also, post-op garments are designed to last for a long time. Professionally constructed medical compression garments do not break or loose functionality after consistent everyday use. As long as the products care handling instructions and instructions for use are followed, medical post-op garments can be worn 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for up to 6-8 weeks without losing any functionality.
